I just saw this article about Iris and Thula, the first sentence made me think a devastating thing to find out your child is Autistic actually probably a true statement for most parents, wouldnt it be a wonderful thing if the diagnosis didnt go hand in hand with devastation and fear. My main overwhelming feeling when Iris was diagnosed was how to help my daughter as we had come to terms that this is what we were probably looking at as her diagnosis. I worked endlessly to find a ways to help her but it wasnt without fear for the future and it wasnt without tears and I certainly never felt supported by the services here in the UK. I wish the different brilliant campaign was around then. I wish instead of the depressing news from the doctor with grim predictions for our future it was a more upbeat talk about how we could help Iris through her difficulties by focussing and building on her strengths.
