I just sent the following message to Ashley Hoak at Heartland Connection in response to her story about the Ameren open house. Lets encourage local media to report the facts instead of Ameren spin. If you can send her facts and figures that support your views, please do so. Ashley, Thankyou for covering the Ameren Open House last night and for including an interview segment with Teri Page of Neighbors United. I want to encourage you to dig deeper into this issue. Local citizens that comprise Neighbors United are not hesitant about the Mark Twain Transmission Project, we are opposed to it. There is a big difference. The reasons for this opposition are not based on myths — they are genuine concerns held by intelligent people who have looked into the issues of medical risks (childhood leukemia, for example), decreased property value, and eminent domain. Also, have you dug deeper to find out exactly how much this power line would reduce local electrical cost? I think you will find that it is infinitesimal, at best. What are the actual figures? What percentage of NEW alternative energy will reach local customers as a result of this line? I surmise that it is probably less than 1%. Ameren is spinning this story to try to lessen the impact of those who are saying “NO” to the Mark Twain Transmission Project. Please investigate this issue and give the concerns voiced by local citizens the validity that they deserve. Victoria Albright 323 West Phipps, La Plata, MO
