I am a composer and physicist in Raleigh, and after a lifetime in music and many academic institutions, I am astonished at the way your school has treated Avery Gagliano. Her gift is extraordinary and very rare, and you should be doing whatever possible to nurture and encourage it. Instead I understand she is now having to be homeschooled due to inflexible and inexplicable truancy regulations. This is really shameful. It is bad enough that music programs in public schools across the nation are cut back, music teachers laid off, and the general state of arts in our schools is on the wane. If you and your school dont care about this, who will?
