I just sent this to the professor who set up the round table and invited the Palestinian asshat to speak, she supported him and actually asked me to leave when I called him out. I will be following up with a much better and more thought out letter to the board of regents at Cal Davis. Inés Hernández-Avila I am shocked that you are enabling the ridiculous perpetuating of propaganda at your university. As an educated native woman you should know better. I was disgusted at the bigotry on open display at that so called round table and you should have been too. When a member of a coloniser people presumes to lecture a north american indian about oppression and marginalisation, and you simply stand there and then actually assist him in shouting me down? there is an issue. a few things, 1- Shihade is using WARD CHURCHHILL as a source to discuss settler colonialism? the same guy who faked indian status for credibility? The one Student actually quoted Churchhill as saying Natives get offended when people compare their struggles to ours, yet thats exactly what Shihade does even by implying that the arabs experience is even remotely similiar to ours. At least the jews can honestly say with a straight face that they underwent an actual genocide the arabs have exeperienced a population explosion during their so called genocide, by even comparing it to ours, its insulting and demeaning. 2- Shihade denies the ties of the jewish people to their ancestral homeland, as an indigenous person you should have heard warning bells from that right away, you do know the history of the middle east right? the arabs are not indigenous to the levant, even shihade was nodding when I said the arabs are indigenous to the Hejaz, or arabian peninsula, he self identifies as an arab so why deny something that is so obviously truthful? 3- He is trying to frame the return of a displaced indigenous people (the jews) as a settler colonialist project, and its patently false, first because the jewish people have scientific and historic proof that they are the indigenous people, and the arabs actually conquered the region in the 7th century, and unless you are going to start saying white people are indigenous to the united states, you simply cannot say that arabs are indigenous to Israel. One does not gain indigenous status through conquering indigenous people. you do massive harm to our struggle when you support people like shihade. There is a simple checklist developed by martines cobo, that supports my argument while destroying Shihades argument. 4-One girl said that in Shihades class they learned that the zionists also persecute the Arabs from the surrounding countries, something patently ridiculous, there are almost 2 billion muslims in the middle east and surrounding regions, there are less than 7 million jews. Israel does not persecute its neighbours, in fact statistics and history show the opposite. this is just more evidence of shoddy academics being taught as truth. the fact that impressionable kids are being taught this garbage is disturbing in the extreme. One girl was actually supportive of Hamas, a terrorist organisation! 5- The entire claim of settler colonialism is a thinly veiled attack on jewish indigenous status, of which there can be no doubt, ask a jew where their holy places are and they will tell you, jerusalem, abrahams tomb in hevron, rachels tomb, and they will tell you in the language that developed in Israel 4 thousand years ago, meanwhile the arabs want us to call the region Palestine which comes from the word pleshtim which means invader. The name was given to region by a coloniser, the roman emperor Hadrian, yet we are expected to believe that indigenous people would call their land by the colonisers name? The arab people in the area, have no specific culttural practices, no sacred sites that are strictly their own and their religion and language are that of the people who colonised the entire region, so you tell me why indigenous people should support them against the indigenous people of the region. I would challenge you or shihade to a public debate, but we both know you would never accept that, the false narrative, (and yes its a narrative not history)that you are both spreading, is not supportable once the lights come on. The truth is that you cannot afford to have people question because if they do, your entire narrative falls apart. You are part of Naisa, you boycotted Israeli academics, because you know that they would destroy your ridiculous assertions which have no factual basis. I will also be sending a letter to the regents of your school asking that they investigate the things being taught in your department, frankly its disgusting. I have no hope that you will look deeply into how much damage you have been doing to the indigenous rights movement with your support of these people, frankly I doubt you have the ability to think critically let alone admit you have been wrong, but know this, there are people like me out here who see people like you lying to other indians, and worse yet, using the fact that you are indian to lend credibility to lies and liars, and we will not be silent. Absolutely No Regards Ryan Mervin Bellerose
