I just spend today reading news about the Crimea annexation by Russia. This was probably the most interesting news about world military things that I have read about since they killed Osama bin Laden and withdrew the military from Iraq. Russia poured over 16,000 Russian troops into Crimea and then signed a treaty with the new de facto rulers of Crimea, who assumed power at gunpoint ousting the Ukrainian officials. The new rulers of Crimea had a referendum that they claim 97% of the people voted to join Russia. I know that the U.S.A. is angry because they have a policy of containment regarding the spread of Communism. I guess Russia is technically not Communist anymore, but I am sure the doctrine of containment applies to Russia partitioning Eastern European countries like Ukraine and taking their land and citizen into their Russian nation. The only thing I really worry about in this situation is a real war between Europe and Russia or the U.S.A. and Russia could be a nuclear war, and nuclear wars can cause nuclear winters which cause most of the Earths species and maybe humans to go extinct permanently and just die out. I always thought smart people in society might be able to change national leaders minds about using their militaries and causing wars, but I dont think anything ever changes with world leaders they cause wars every decade of their own free will.
