I just walked in the door feeling saddened. A little earlier tonight while I was on the train I had a physical altercation with a young brother. I didnt wish to hurt him--which is what quickly happened-- but he came into my personal space making it obvious that he was going to attack me. At that moment it was either him or me. He was harassing two sisters and began spitting at one of them so I and another brother intervened on their behalf. Ill say again that every black institution needs to establish a manhood training program similar to the Nation of Islams Fruit of Islam class. What our young brothers need is proper instruction on how to carry themselves in public. And they must learn to never be the aggressor for it may cost them their life. Behavior like this gives conservatives and others ammunition to justify the killing of young black men by officers and civilians claiming self-defense. These young brothers never bother white Mormans who stroll through the community late at night or step to police officers who blatantly disrespect them, violate their rights, or beat them down but theyre very quick to terrorize somebodys black sister, mother, grandparent, father, or someone else black who is doing them no harm. One of the sisters being harassed said to this young brother, This is why young black men get into trouble. She made a very good point. ELDERS PLEASE TEACH THE YOUTH.
