I just want people to please be more careful and alert on the highways in our area. Drive responsibly, but also defensively. In the last 4 weeks, there have been at least 5 killed and several more injured in our area alone. I have lost count of how many have died in Dickson County within the past year. The even more sad thing is; every death I remember hearing about has been of someone who did not cause the wreck. Several people I know personally had just left church services last night, at a congregation my father preached for years ago, and a young man was killed by a reportedly reckless driver at the entrance to that same church building soon after. We need to watch out for ourselves, watch out for each other, and set the example to all other drivers. Lets teach our young how to drive safely, and be the example in front of them. However, most of these wrecks were caused by someone who was at least 30 years old, not by teenagers or early 20s as is commonly stereotyped. Those who knew me when I was a young person probably remember when I was reckless but, by the grace of God, I never hurt anyone other than myself. I enjoyed my fast cars, but it came with a cost financially and physically. I try to use my personal experiences to help teach others now what they should, or should not, do. There is much more traffic now, many more people on the road, and too many are not driving responsibly. If you see someone driving reckless, try to get their tag #, description of the vehicle, time and location, and report them. If possible, without putting yourself in danger, try to film the offence and turn that in also. Of course, please do not attempt to call or film or write if you are the driver. I would like to see a community forum or committee formed to work on this problem since law enforcement cant do it all by themselves. If someone is in such a hurry that they endanger themselves and others, they are in too big a hurry. Trying to save seconds can change, or end, lives forever in a blink of an eye.
