I just want to give a warning out there. PLEASE research a trainer - TopicsExpress

I just want to give a warning out there. PLEASE research a trainer before you use them. Ive had too many horses come to me with injuries that should have never happened from previous trainers. I have also been hearing horror stories of what people have gone through with other local trainers as well as seen people advertising themselves as trainers that dont have the knowledge or skills. People can make you think they know more than they do and a website can make things look great when it is not. Check out their facebook, get references, watch them work horses yourself, show up unexpectedly to their facility, speak with their vets and farriers. Whatever you have to do, do your research! Even once you feel comfortable sending your horses, make sure you stay involved the best you can. If you dont live close enough to stop in a couple times a week then you can ask for photos/videos whenever possible. It is not unreasonable to ask for this. If there is an issue (horses dropping weight, not progressing in training, etc.) your trainer should be discussing these things with you, not leaving you in the dark until your horse is in a bad situation. A trainer should also want to make sure that your horse is up to health and ready for training (feet trimmed, teeth floated, no chiro issues, etc) and they should be able to recognize what is a health issue versus a training issue. Since I am not currently taking in training horses, if you need your horse trained and dont want to wait until I start training again, message me and I can give you recommendations to trainers I trust and know for a fact will take care of your horses
