I just want to take a moment and recognize my amazing wife Dawn MacDonald, and all the great healthcare workers at Brigham and Womens Hospital. Today a crazed gunman walked into her workplace with the intent of killing a doctor. As shots rang out and the police rushed in, the staff of BWH remained. They remained in a terrifying and dangerous environment because they had patients to care for. As I received texts from her and scanned radios and tv trying to find out what was happening, they remained in harms way, caring for those who needed them. It is a disgrace that, in this day and age, there are no metal detectors or screening of any type at an institution which cares for those who are defenseless. You cannot get into most state or federal government buildings without being screened. But, at the hospitals that treat both the gunshot wounded gangbangers and innocent surgery patients side by side, anyone can just walk right in.
