I just wanted to clear something up re: the Rafflecopter/Giveaway - TopicsExpress

I just wanted to clear something up re: the Rafflecopter/Giveaway Tools and Facebook like changes. Ive heard people say that companies/pages are no longer allowed to ask for a like in connection with a promotion. In August Facebook announced that as of November 5th, app developers may no longer inventivize likes or like gate content. (blog.rafflecopter/2014/08/facebook-platform-policy-updates/) There have as of now been no changes to the promotional guidelines: https://facebook/page_guidelines.php I wouldnt be surprised if another update to the promotional guidelines came along soon, but as of now, there is nothing forbidding page owners from asking for people to like the page to enter the giveaway. Its my opinion that Facebook wanted to avoid the situations where someone was running down the list on an entry form and liking 20, 30 or more Facebook pages that they hadnt even visited, let alone had an interest in. This leads to your news feed being jammed with things you have no interest in seeing, and the things you DO want to see being buried. Facebook DOES still forbid involving personal timelines in any way, so no asking to share. That rule has been in place and isnt anything new. Any giveaways with a start date before 11/5 in Rafflecopter (whether or not theyve been published) can still have the like option. A blogger can also duplicate, then change an old giveaway and keep the like option. I imagine at some point Rafflecopter will remove that as well. Just keep in mind that if you see bloggers or pages offering or requiring a like in exchange for an entry, theyre not doing anything wrong per current promotional guidelines. Of course, its always possible that Ive missed something but I have been searching since August and cannot find anything (from Facebook officially, not speculation or opinion) that the app developer guidelines mean what people are making this out to mean. Personally, I have always wanted genuine fans of the page vs. people after a giveaway entry. For this reason I rarely, if ever offered liking my page as a giveaway entry. I began doing so occasionally fairly recently, after realizing that I had been missing out on gaining thousands of fans over the years AND that most people who entered my giveaways would likely be interested in my page. I dont do liking as a mandatory either so its certainly not a must. :-) The like entry issue really becomes a problem (in my opinion) when you have a iPad or cash giveaway, and ask people to like a ton of unrelated pages. I tend to think if youre entering to win an Ergo carrier, you might be OK with liking that companys page! I also find that many people who have liked my page at some point or another have been glad they did. I think we have a great community here! I have giveaways running now with like as an option and Im undecided on whether I will ask for a like for future flash giveaways. The reason I prefer it that way is that I can then tag the winner! OK this ends my ramble. :-)
