I just wanted to point out that anti intellectualism on the left is just as bad as it is on the right. For every redneck christian conservative denying AGW and promoting creationism, there is a wishy-washy liberal or radical leftist promoting the anti-vaccination cause and spreading an irrational fear of GMOs. If you fail to make both camps angry, youre doing it wrong. - Daniel Greinke But lets really compare those two tho: while yes, there are certainly leftists that believe GMOs and vaccinations are the devil (well ignore the fact that there are plenty of conservatives devoted to these causes as well), and yes, being on the wrong side of those two issues causes serious harm, lets also not equalize either these two sets of issues, or the level of anti-intellectualism on the right. Creationism, climate change, basic math, and the whole host of other issues that the right is wrong on are, and have been, doing far greater harm. I mean, you cant really even compare the resistance to GMOs, which, so far, has amounted to basically a clumsy law that has companies label their products with GMO info, and the resistance from the right on climate change, which has done irreparable damage. Anti-vaccination as complete bullshit is a cause Im very passionate on, as it impacts me in a very direct way, and I understand fully the harm, but to compare or divorce anti-vaxers and creationists that have changed public education curriculums seems to be a bit off. At the core, its conservatives who really defend anti-vaxers, and resist common sense laws that force children to get vaccinated. I understand the desire to be or appear bipartisan, as its too commonly read as being above reproach, but if the statement that one must upset both camps to be correct is being sincerely made, thats just exposing a bias towards the middle. Whether its issue by issue, or ideologically, if you tend to be on the right or in the middle, chances are youre doing it wrong.
