I just wanted to say thank-you to those who answered or even read my distressed post a few days ago about my daughters struggle with math. Thankfully, she doesnt realize its a struggle and I would like to keep it that way. Shh! ;-) Anyhow, although we have used different math manipulatives, I ordered an abacus, set of cuisenaire rods and a set of base 10 blocks. She was so excited when they came in the mail yesterday! While I was watching some videos on using the Cuisenaire Rods, I came across this woman describing something called Dyscalculia. I had never heard of it before, but you know what? It almost perfectly describes our daughter! Now, I have something more concrete. So, I wanted to share this video description, in case it might be helpful to anyone else.
