I just wanted to share with you all how much ABA therapy has helped my son and family. Cj was diagnosed with autism at 21 months. I can honestly say I knew he had it from birth. My pediatrician handed me a script for full time ABA therapy. At the time I had no clue what it was. We live in Indiana, which has one of the best autism mandates in the country. I toured a couple centers but felt most comfortable with BACA (Behavior analysis center for autism). Dr. Carl sundberg met with us our first visit. He is hands down one of my favorite PHDs in the field. So Cj at the time had lost all of his language. He was still able to make sounds but it was more babbling. Cj screamed and cried 24/7. He would throw up so much that he even had GI specialist baffled. He would also engage in head banging and hand flapping. I asked Dr. Carl Sundberg if he thought I should do any special diets. Im personally not a fan of special diets unless its medically necessary. He told me to give him a couple weeks to work with Cj before I made any diet changes. One week later the vomiting stopped completely. They were able to teach Cj signs to communicate what he wanted. I was amazed and also instantly fell in love with the field of behavior analysis. This was also the first time since birth I was able to bond with my son. Cj will be 5 next month. Im amazed at how far Cj has come. He is able to verbally communicate with me. He no longer engages in head banging or hand flapping. Ive learned from parent training how to deal with CJs tantrums. Im a firm believer in empowering the parents with knowledge to help with their child in the home and social environments. I would say that I have been very fortunate in getting a diagnosis early and starting early intervention. I hear a lot from strangers saying that they would never know Cj had autism. Im one proud parent:). I just wanted to share this so that you all know how much of an impact you have in our childrens world. I will end with that I will always be eternally grateful for what Dr. Carl Sundberg and his staff at BACA have done for Cj and my family. Devon Sundberg 😍
