I just wanted to take this opportunity to say a huge thanks to all those who have so far come on board & helped us to organise one of our Regional Days & Showcase Concerts since we started them back in late 2011. We greatly appreciate the time & input youve given to us - many who are busy themselves already running their own clubs/venues & festivals! Most of you will be aware that Folk21 is run entirely by volunteers & what we have achieved so far has been down to the committment of all those involved & the belief that we can, if we work together, help strengthen the current folk club/venue network, encourage new clubs to be created, provide more opportunities for the ever increasing number of artists on the scene & most importantly keep folk music live across the UK in our weekly/monthly clubs/venues. We are under no illusions that there is still plenty of work to be done - one of the biggest battles as weve heard in many discussions on this page is the need to boost audience attendance, encouraging people to support live music in their own region on a regular basis. We know there are no quick fixes! We also need to help assist & encourage people of all ages to take on an organising role. To not only help create new clubs/venues (which of course creates more performing opportunities for our amazing folk artists) but to also take on the running of an existing club/venue if long standing organisers wish to retire. There is no set formula on how to best run a club/venue - there are best practices which have been proved to help create & sustain many successful clubs & these, along with the knowledge & experience of their organisers assist us greatly in what we are trying to achieve. It would be great too if there are any other members out there who want to help us run more of our Regional Days?? We also always welcome new ideas & suggestions so please either post here or get in touch with me privately. We need all of you whatever your folk connections or backgrounds to help us to keep building up this group & working towards a thriving & strong folk club/venue network that keeps folk music live & accessible across the UK....
