I just watched Lone Survivor for the first time. Ive had it since it came out on dvd (ironically, on my alive day). Shows such a strong bond of brotherhood, never quitting and, some may argue, the sense and comfort of humanity in what you may think is your enemy. The day I was hit, myself and an Afghan Governor were the only survivors in our vehicle, and I believe that politician eventually passed. On the MEDEVAC Chopper, an Afghan Soldier came along to be with the governor and all I wanted to do was look at my legs. He kept pushing my forehead back down and shaking his head no as he scratched the top of my dome in comfort. Once we hit the hospital and one of my old platoon sergeants, SFC Young, was visiting me in the room I was in, the Afghan Soldier came into my room to visit to see how I was doing and say with me for a bit. I had no freggin idea what he was saying, but it was comforting. My old plt sgt even wrote to my brother in an email saying what an eye opening moment it was (Joe told me the email when he saw me at Walter Reed). We were always told be careful trusting these national military/law enforcement because many times in the past they have turned on our own troops, but that moment I realized, theyre not all bad. Some of them are no different than us. Just dealt with some bad cards from a corrupt nation. On a lighter note, if anyone ever saw the movie... Right in the beginning where Marcus and, I believe it was Mike, are racing on Bagram Airfield back to the barracks? Did any one else notice they didnt have their PT Belts on? Theyre lucky a Blackhawk didnt fly into them on accident. PT Belts save lives. I wear mine every time I go to the restroom in case I fall in. You should too. You can thank me later. - E
