I just watched @President Barack Obamas 2015 State Of The Union Address. Not only do I agree with nearly everything he says, but Im very pleasantly surprised (shocked, actually) that he addressed some of the key issues which The Democratic Party and The Republican Party have both *avoided* talking about for 100 years and counting: - the widening divide between the wealth of the bottom 99% and the top 1% - excessive corporate influence over government I also love how Mr Obama chided Congress for demonizing each other rather than arguing the issues (an oblique reference to Grahams Hierarchy of Disagreement), and how he asked Congress to send him bills which further the well-being of the American people, and made it clear that he would veto bills which work against the interests of the people. Though, I must say he did make a few gaffs as well, such as: 1. Saying in the same breath that we must have free speech, and also ban derogatory comments about Islam. Thats a contradiction, Mr President. No, we need free speech, *period*, and that should, indeed *must*, include the right -- no, the *duty*, actually -- to ridicule any and all religions for the harmful superstion they are. 2. Calling the pope his holyness. Hes not holy, hes just the CEO of the worlds largest religion corporation (The Roman Catholic Church), and its hard to think of anything less holy than *that*. 3. Saying God bless America. Sorry Mr President, but gods are superstition and have no place in government (or in SOTU addresses). But all in all, an excellent speech, and well worth 1 hr of your time.
