I just watched the documentary The Paw Project on Netflix streaming. This documentary shows a vet who is trying to get declawing cats banned in the U.S. Here are some facts: 1) twenty other countries, 2) most vets do the procedure to make money, 3) major veterinary associations are lobbying against bans to maintain the profit stream from declawing by branding it as a freedom of choice issue for owners or straw man arguments between cats and children or property, 4) when the claw is removed it is equivalent to removing the last digits of your toes, 5) the claws attempt to regrow and create many bone fragments in the paw pads which create a chronic infection that can cause pain and inability to walk, 6) when cats paws are painful they are more likely to bite and to not use their litterbox because moving the litter is painful - so they are more likely to be surrendered if they are declawed than not, 7) 22 million cats are declawed in the U.S., 8) claw sleeves or regular trimming are a good alternatives, 9) the CDC and AMA dont support declawing even in cases of HIV+ owners. https://youtube/watch?v=T8pNuFDQrtg https://facebook/pawproject
