I just watched the final episode of How I Met Your Mother. I watched the first episode of that story with the woman who would become my wife, in our little apartment, in 2005. I was a reporter for a little newspaper in the town where I grew up, had my first dog and things were good. Its 2014. In six and a half hours, movers are coming to take all my worldly possessions to a new apartment in a new city. In the nine years since I first watched that show, I got married and divorced. I got promoted and let go. Family and friends grew apart and disappeared. The anxiety condition that once crippled me has taken a few late round swings, in those years. I imagine it will again, at some point. It was just a television show, but it strangely matched the rhythms of my own life. Now, its over. And I think Im ready to start my own story.
