I just went outside and sat on the porch steps with my outside kitty, Fluffy. She is outside by her choice, not mine. She became part of our family about 16 years ago as a stray I tamed. Not really sure how old she is. We sat on the steps and listened to the outside country: noises. Crickets and cars about a mile off in the distance with an occasional vehicle driving by on the road out front. Brought back so many memories of nights spent at my grandmothers, Carrie Squyres Singletary, as a child. She lived in what was then Cora, LA. She didnt have A/C or even fans. Once in bed, in front of screened window, we hoped for a breeze to cool us off and lay listening to the sounds of the night. No traffic or dusk to dawn lights back then. Such sweet memories.
