I keep asking all of these people who hate Michael Vick what the difference is between exploiting dogs because you get some pleasure out of it and exploiting cows, pigs, chickens, fish, etc. because you derive palate pleasure from eating them or products made from them. In both cases, sentient beings are exploited for no reason more compelling than pleasure. I have not gotten a single coherent response. Not one. I have reluctantly come to the conclusion that a good chunk of the reaction to Vick is because he is a man of color. Theres really no other explanation. And its tragic that the lesson we learned from the Vick matter was how to combine racism and speciesism in yet another way.
