I keep forgetting till the night of the event to post on my Facebook that every Tuesday night at 8:00 we have a dynamite open mic at The Mystic Cafe on Main in Lewiston. A wide variety of talent and a colorful, fun atmosphere. I host the night and Rollie got the computer tablet PA board all figured out and mobile so we can run sound out front. Sound is so different now. No big sound board or 50 lbs (or more!!) of snake going to the sound board. No racks of processing gear.... just a tablet with a picture of a sound board, like a cartoon soundboard on a computer screen, and yet somehow, by magic, it works!! The pretend knobs actually turn and change the tones and volumes. Still, give me an old fashioned sound board, snaked out front with a rack of processing gear. Give me a good 31 band EQ. I love the simplicity and control. But I never want to lift that stuff again. EVER!!! On another note, I couldnt be more excited. Rollie and I are playing with two of this valleys musical legends as we open up for a third legend, literally valley music royalty. Rollie and I are teaming up with the great drummer Tommy Williams and one of the original great guitarists of the quad cities and leader of so many great bands Billy Bair. Tommy totally innovated and changed drumming in this area. But the coolest thing is we are opening up for an old friend of all of ours and the guitarist who influenced me so much as a kid and always, really,... the fabulous guitarist, grammy nominated songwriter and recording artist Lewistons own Paul Speer. No one had a greater influence on the music scene here than Paul Speer and his brothers. It will be January 30 and I think its at the LC center for the arts. Ill find out from Rollie and post.
