I keep having to re stick this to the front of Eds page, so bare with me! On Friday, May 23, 2014, Ed was feeling pretty miserable with cold-type symptoms. On Sunday, Laura, Eds wife, was alarmed by his uncontrolled fever, low blood pressure, and confusion. She took him to the ER. He was admitted to the hospital with double pneumonia and sepsis. By Monday, Eds kidneys and liver began to shut down, and he was transferred to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. By Tuesday morning, Ed was on continuous dialysis and his liver had totally failed, sending him into hepatic coma. On Tuesday afternoon, Eds name was at the top of the regional organ transplant list, and he had very little time to live. Seven hours after being placed on the transplant list, a perfect, compatible liver was located, and Ed underwent transplant surgery. Ed is still in critical condition in the ICU. We see improvements every day. However, sometimes we have setbacks. Wednesday, June 11th, he almost lost the battle again. He had internal bleeding and went into Hypovolemic shock. Trauma 1 mass transfusion protocol was enacted. He received 11 units of blood plus other products. He had to be placed back on a ventilator and had to have low blood pressure resuscitation. Ed had another bad bleed a week later. He became hypothermic and was back on the ventilator. Again, he pulled through! Ed is now out of ICU and awaiting release to go to inpatient rehab in Nashville. Ed still has a long journey ahead of him. We covet your prayers! UPDATE Ed is now home from rehab. He is improving every day. He has several obstacles to conquer. but is taking each one. a step at a time, and continues to improve. Please consider donating your organs and blood. We pray for the family who went through a tragedy so that Ed could have life. Ed and Laura have four children: John (13), Dawson (10), and twins, Cathleen and Carter (7). This page documents Eds story and the praying people who are a part of it. God does not promise a life lived for Him will be trouble free, but He does promise that He will never leave us or forsake us. We dont know when our lives will be turned upside down by terror and grief, but we know that because of the Greater Hope that is in us, we can praise God through the storm.
