I keep hearing the call in the Black community that we need a Black leader in America. I disagree. I think we need to take things to the next level. It begins with self. The message we miss about all of the civil rights pioneers is it is up to organizations to address to injustices in America. Then it is up to the individual to take those opportunities and become successful. Also it us up to the individual to hold those in the community who are messing up accountable for their actions. For us it is really simple. 1) Have faith. 2) Get an education, the more the better. 3) Dont get involved in the criminal justice system. 4) Have a plan, not a dream. 5) Find a mentor to help you be successful. (And there are plenty of mentors out there.) We keep waiting for the next MLK or the next Black Leader to take us to the Promise Land of the American Dream. Thats a mistake. Its not up to them. It is up to us.
