I keep seeing educational articles about how shocking it is that you have to pay taxes on (or more precisely file) Kickstarter income. Its really annoying because the writers talk about it like its some sinister hidden cost that they are exposing with their deep investigative journalism. Are people really that daft? If you receive money for anything, for any reason, you have to file it. Thats how taxation works. If you spent/lost all the money, you could not actually end up paying anything, but why is it shocking that it has to be filed? Why would Kickstarter be magically different than every single other source of money? Are people really that poor at understanding these things?
