I keep seeing these things making the rounds, and everyone guessing at the answers, even when people explain it. So, as a former math tutor, heres how it works: It is ALL about order of operations. This is why there are set rules in mathematics - if there were no set rules, none of it would make sense, and nothing would be built properly. In this case, it is PEMDAS - Parentheses, then Exponents, then Multiplication, then Division, then Addition, then Subtraction. If there are no parentheses, then its just MDAS - and you MULTIPLY and DIVIDE before you do anything else. So the correct answer is 50. Period.
