I keep wondering why the highest level of award a typical Nigerian music artiste can attain in terms of acheivement is the MOBO awards.gone are the days when we do have King Sunny Ade and Fela as nominees for GRAMMY.9ice,Tuface,Whizkid,Dbanj or whoever has never come close to being nominated, cos the last time i checked,Seun Kuti was the last Nigerian to be nominated, and he did so consistently for some years but never came close to winning it.what has been eluding our so called music artiste from it?now take a look at some other African countries that already boast of One or two Grammy award winner and numerous nominees, seems most Nigerian rarely listens to their music..late Miriam Makeba is a good example of a typical African musician you will always listen to,you just feel the deep African style of Music, background voices, good lyrical content, and also portraying what African Culture is all about, the struggles, drums, dance, and local intruments, same goes for Angelique Kidjo,Evora Cesaria,Yossour Ndour,Salif Kaita,Mama Sissoko,Henri Dikongue,SOWETO Gospel singers,etc....all known worldwide mostly in Francophone countries and some Anglophone countries.same cant be said of our so called most Nigerian artiste, who sings without even thinking, and also show music videos that doesnt even go along with the song they sing, and you expect them to gain international recognition, how many of them do go on Tours.(though few are trying)...Music isnt all about the beat or the noise you produce, its about the lyrical content, and the way it affects your society positively...
