I knew there was more than a thunderstorm passing over about half an hour ago when my house started shaking. Built on bridge pilings, my very sturdy house NEVER shakes. Thankfully my friend Frances was on the phone with me and I interuped our conversation as I ran into the dining room from my office to look outside at the Gulf. Ive been watching the Gulf since dawn as it has been angry and pounding the berm with a vengance. As I looked through the horizontal rain, I immediately saw it. There was a pretty good sized tornado moving from west to east along the shoreline. Id estimate that it was about 60 feet wide and extended all the way up to the solid layer of storm clouds above. Within seconds, everything was so black out and the rain and wind so heavy that I could not see much past my house. There were cars on Gulf Blvd. pulling over into the houses around me and getting under the houses for safety, so Im sure that they were all seeing the twister too. Plus, Im sure they couldnt see the road. Poor Frances had to go through this with me, but Im thankful she was there on the other end of the phone. At one point while Im having a total meltdown, she said, should we hang up so you can go to a neighbors house or something? to which I yelled NO! Dont leave me!! I realize now that I probably have PTSD from the tornado that tore through Milton when I was a child. It ripped right over my head as I was running through a field to the school for my Saturday morning baton lesson. It killed about 20 people and tore Milton up pretty badly. whew! Now I dont know if I should force myself to get refocused on my work, take a nap or pour a glass of wine. I know one thing, 5:00 will definitely get here, sooner or later. I hope everyone out there is safe!
