I knew this article was coming out and I was interested in reading it. I am sorry but as autism is a developmental disorder you dont recover. You learn to adapt and be taught things. If you have seen one child with autism you have seen one child with autism and what works for one child works for one child. I sometimes feel these articles do a disservice to us who are on the journey. How many people are going to see this and say if I do this my child will be cured? You just keep plugging away finding what works for your child. J has been receiving services since 18 months and while he has made huge strides there are basic tasks he can still not do. He is finally able to communicate with a PECS board but isnt potty trained. Do you know what small thing I celebrated this weekend? J wiggled his front tooth until he got it out. Something so typically normal is a HUGE milestone for us.It doesnt seem huge to most people but to us it is the world.
