I know I dont have a lot of friends out in FB land that are 65 or older...but if you are and you have any questions about Medicare...please let me help. Every state and every county in every state (at least here in NY) offer different plans (with a lot of overlap) so details may be a little different. But the basics of Medicare are the same and their are strategies that your agent should be making you aware of when it comes time to enroll or review your plan. A lot of the folks I see make mistakes when it comes to covering Medicare aged spouses on their employers healthcare plan. I worked with a couple recently who were paying for double coverage which is wasteful at best not to mention illegal for licensed agents like me to write. And then there are those who dont realize that there are penalties for not enrolling in Medicare when you are eligible (with some exceptions) You should also remember that there are specific times to enroll and dis-enroll. And Special Enrollment Periods (SEP) when you have particular events like a physical move out of the area, a loss of income that would qualify you for a low income subsidy/extra help and/or if a provider has discontinued the plan you are on to name a few. Were coming up on Open Enrollment. This period is predominantly for those of you already in a Medicare Plan. From October 15th through December 7th you can (and should) review your plan with a licensed agent/broker and make sure it meets your current needs.
