I know I have a lot of Michigan friends who call Congressman Dave Camp a RINO and have spewed a good amount of venom toward and about him. I met Dave Camp many years ago as a reporter for our local newspaper. I found him to be a genuinely nice person, who took the time to sit down and talk with me when he was not on the campaign trail. I was nervous to meet him, but he put me at ease. Each year, I would get to speak with him whenever he was in Grayling, shake his hand along the AuSable River Festival Parade route and snap a few photos of him speaking with people. Like I said, hes a genuinely nice person and doesnt deserve the hate thrown his way. Redistricting caused me to lose him as my congressman, but I have continued to follow his work, especially with the IRS investigation. I will not berate him because of our differences. I know I will never agree 100% with anyone, him included. I respect him and am so glad he remained upbeat as he battled cancer a few years back. He never lost his spirit or smile. I am saddened to learn today that Dave Camp will not seek another term this November. I wish him well. Thank you, Dave, for being a good friend to northern lower Michigan.
