I know I have beaten this point into the ground but since it has surfaced again in the blog regarding our pending volunteer department let me one more time post it here for the chance that one more person that may not realize it will read it and say...Ahh, I get it now: The statement that it cost 4 million dollars to run EMS in the city has once again been tossed against the wall. If you purchase a new car for an example, and the dealership throws in On-Star and Satellite Radio for two years, it is not part of the cost of the car. It is in addition to what you are paying. When you have a group of professional firefighters, and they are paid to protect the lives and property of the residents, and supply the city with fire response and rescue services, you pay them for that! Then if you are smart you ask these same responders to supply you with EMS response and transport and TA DA! You have bundled a service and revenue stream to an already existing paid group of employees! I would have thought that Jeff would have loved this, someone doing another job and I have already paid them for the first one. And again a little stroll in the park of common sense: The private ambulance company CEO strolls into a board meeting with the parent company (Zeiger Healthcare) and tells them that he has great news, we are going to run the EMS response and transport in Taylor, and it is only going to cost our corporation 4 million dollars a year to do it! Think of the tax write off! He would be tossed from the boardroom so fast his head would spin. And the saddest part about this is that there are those that buy into this craziness. PICK RICK!
