I know I have been posting a lot of these lately. I also know how tempting it is to scroll right past these posts. Why? These stories are heartbreakingly sad, and it’s tough to page through all these pictures of animals that have less than 12 hours to live. BUT because of the holiday, adoptions and pledges are lower than usual, and the kill list is especially high. ON TOMORROW’S LIST, THERE ARE *22* CATS AND KITTENS IN NYC SCHEDULED TO BE EUTHANIZED (STARTING AT 6am, TWO HOURS BEFORE THE SHELTERS OFFICIALLY OPEN). You might not be in a position to foster or adopt an animal yourself, but maybe someone on your friends list is, so PLEASE SHARE. Also, by clicking on the individual pictures, you can pledge money towards a cat or kitten’s rescue – sometimes these funds enable rescue groups to take these guys out of the kill shelters, and support these cats in foster care until they can be adopted out. Pledges can be in ANY AMOUNT (I’ve seen ones that range from $1.00 to $150.00). Of course, pledging is still no guarantee that these guys will make it. Rescue groups often have a limited amount of space to take in additional cats. So, if you know someone who can foster or adopt, that’s even better. BUT PLEDGING STILL HELPS! The worst part is how many of these come in as owner surrenders – the shelters do not place a hold on these cats before they are scheduled to be destroyed – so they even have less of a chance of finding a home. Many of these cats have been with their owners for YEARS, only to be dumped in a kill shelter with excuses like: “I’m moving” or “Too many pets” or “Too expensive” or “Allergies” or “No time”. One of the cats on tonight’s list, Willow, has been with her owner for 12 YEARS and was dumped at a kill shelter when her owner decided she had NO TIME for this poor cat. She is sweet, friendly and has a behavior score of 10 (13 being the friendliest, with the lowest scores going into the negatives). So, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE share this post (especially if you live in the Tri-State area), and consider taking one of these guys in, or pledging towards their care if you can’t.
