I know Ive gone on about this before, but its Black History Month - TopicsExpress

I know Ive gone on about this before, but its Black History Month and I have been negligent in posting something celebrating it. When Senator Cory Booker was elected this past October (oh those whacky hijinks of Gov. Christie meant to help suppress turn out during his November re-election), it marked the second time in our nations history that we had two African American senators serving at the same time. Booker joined Senator Tim Scott, who had been appointed to replace James Demint when he retired in order to run an UltraConservativeTeaPartyFlavored think thank. The first time in history that we had TWO Senators? Why it was actually that same year... when Scott was serving with Senator Mo Cowan, who had been appointed to replace Secretary Kerry upon his appointment to Secretary of State. Senator Bookers victory was especially important, as he became only the FOURTH African American Senator to be elected in our nations history... joining President Obama, former Senators William Brooke and Senator Carol Moseley Brown. Senator Scott will soon enlarge that list to five, as he is generally expected to easily win his reelection campaign this November. That should mark another important first: Both Booker and Scott are strongly favored for reelection and it would mark the first time TWO African American Senators were elected to office in the same election.
