Even though clean water is vital to healthy communities and a thriving economy, some of my colleagues in Congress think it’s a good idea to prevent the Environmental Protection Agency and the Army Corps of Engineers from clarifying existing water guidelines. HR 5078 would stop the public input process currently underway, creating additional confusion and regulatory uncertainty that further burdens businesses, farmers and communities. I’m always willing to work with my colleagues to pass laws that improve the lives of all Americans, but today’s vote was little more than a political stunt. Here’s my floor speech on HR 5078:
