I know Robert is going to post a detailed write up.... But I just want to add my two cents. This will be more of broad overview....I will leave the details to Robert about the upcoming storm. Showers are possible over western New York State and western Pennsylvania as early as Friday afternoon. The rain showers would work east and south from here. As for the coastal.....Were going to see an area of low pressure dragging a powerful cold front. Low pressure will move over the Great Lakes and into the Tennessee Valley and Carolinas. The low pressure over North Carolina will transfer its energy to the coast. As the storm strengthens significantly, it will pull colder air deep into the Southeast U.S. The coastal storm will then move north and east. The southern and Central Appalachian Mountains could see quite a bit of snow, with the Northern Appalachians into parts of the extreme Southern Tier of Pennsylvania seeing less snow, but it could end up being a few inches. For the Mid Atlantic and Northeast....in a rare setup, the coldest air will be to the west and south. Its also looking like there will be dry air sitting over New York State into New England. If youre not a snow lover, all of this is a good thing. Right now, the coastal looks to stay far enough off the Mid Atlantic coast that it wont be a big impact, Its also looking like it will be just too warm for much in the way of any snow along the I-95, including Washington, D.C., Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York City, and Boston. The models are in better agreement as to the track along the New England coast, right now, the coastal looks to take more of an eastern track heading towards eastern Nova Scotia and the Maritime Provinces of Canada . Between the eastern track, the dry air, and the coldest air south of Pennsylvania. Those in Northern Pennsylvania, New York State and New England will be spared the brunt of the storm. Eastern Maine could be brushed by the western edge of the storm, which could cause some accumulating snow, especially in the higher elevations. For everyone else, there could be snow showers in the higher elevations of New York and Pennsylvania late Friday into Saturday, There could also be snow showers in the higher elevations in New England.... a dusting to perhaps a few inches.....but right now it doesnt look like a significant snowstorm. Winds and wind chills will be the biggest issue with this storm. Late Saturday afternoon/ evening winds will start to pickup quite a bit.....Saturday night into Sunday winds of 25-40 mph along the coast of New England, with a few gust possibility reaching 50-55 mph. Winds across inland New England into New York and Pennsylvania would be 15-30 mph with higher gust possible. The cooler air and winds will combine to make it feel quite cold over the weekend, so bundle up! As I said, yesterday, weve had three coastal storms in as many weeks.... this is a good sign of what the winter pattern could look like.........
