I know a different story than Kevin. It involved a “legal process” which was documented in the news media in the early 90’s. The process was created by the attorney’s of Microsoft. Microsoft would express interest in a company’s or inventor’s work. They would request the party with the technology visit Microsoft and to make sure they brought along all specifications. The meeting would always end well with Microsoft representatives stating they would get back to the party who created the tech. Then the party would hear afterwards via an insult that microsoft was no longer interested in their work because their product was not “commercial grade.” In between the two scenarios I depict, after the party that brought the specs to Microsoft left, the specs were formally handed over to an attorney. The attorney would then give the specs to a technical person and ask them to make a new set of specs with different wording but which contained the same technology as the original set of specs. The original and new set of specs were handed back to the attorney. The attorney would then hand the “new” and “legal” set of specs to a programmer and ask him to write the code that behaved as defined in the spec. Microsoft did this 20+ years ago. In fact they did it to a product of which I was a member of the team that created and maintained it; Communications Manager/Communications Integrator. The CM or CI allowed end to end communication between two LUs (logical units = program or hardware; e.g. ticket printer, tv display at airport, check in airport computer, travel agency computer, MCI computer systems, Citicorp Computer Systems, American Airlines, etc…) Today it is known as the “Toilet Paper” protocols of the internet TP; http, ftp, ntp, sntp, etc… The enemy always offends (insults) in addition to causing grief and pain. The enemy relies on the “forgetting” that takes place which is why young people have no idea that most of the stuff in Windows Operating Systems was stolen from inventors and companies around the world. If people knew the truth I don’t think anyone would offer to buy dinner for the Gates whose daddy made it all possible. He’s the lawyer that thought up IBM’s monopoly, and the legal process that his government buddies approved to steal poor people’s work.
