I know everyone has been waiting for an update on Raine. I - TopicsExpress

I know everyone has been waiting for an update on Raine. I apologize for the delay, but Ive been in a fog since yesterday. Our vet didnt do the surgery Thursday. He had determined there wasnt a true obstruction, but something else was going on. He was able to get the bleeding stopped on Thursday afternoon, Raine had been given fluids and his condition stabilized. We were referred to another hospital that had the equipment and expertise to treat any emergency situation that might arise. So, Raine and I spent all of yesterday at Georgia Veterinary Specialists in Sandy Springs (the Mayo Clinic for animals). After all the vets (including the oncology staff) reviewed his test results, it was determined the cancer had metastasized and the prognosis is less than 2 months. You see in addition to the bone cancer (which caused the amputation) he has a very large perineal hernia. His bladder had migrated into the large hernia cavity. This was the reason for the blood in his urine, the bladder was being squeezed inside that cavity and causing major irritation. To fix him, the surgery would consist of opening his entire little belly up to tack the bladder down to his abdominal wall and then repair the hernia (another large incision around his tail area). Of course I love all my foster dogs, but some are just extra special and Raine is one those. I love him so much and Im totally heartbroken with this news. We had no idea that his prognosis was so grave. I felt the only decision I could make, the only decision that was best for him, was to bring him home, keep him comfortable and spoil him for the time he has left. I just dont feel that his last few days here on earth should be spent recovering from two major surgical procedures. The oncologist agreed with me, if Raine were her personal pet she would not put him thru this. Please know that we will not let him be in pain. Im sorry I just have not been able to put all this in writing before now. I sincerely appreciate everyones concern for my little man. And thank you all your continued support to this Rescue. We have the most wonderful group of folks and we couldnt save them without your help!!
