I know everyone probably gets sick & tired of me always saying how much I love my job but I really do & Max is a perfect example of why I love it so much. Of course I love dogs & working with animals, thats a given but its much more than that & sometimes that family that desperately needed you comes along & reminds you what its really all about. See, Maxs dad has cerebral palsy & Maxs grandma has osteoporosis, neither of them could even take Max for a walk. Max is, well was EXTREMELY wild & strong as an ox. He wouldve been a challenge even for a big strong man, making it impossible for someone with physical disabilities to handle him. We had to go to their house to pick Max up. When we sat down at their kitchen table to discuss expectations & goals they cried...I cried. I thought these people truly love this dog & are so committed to making this work. How many people would put up with what they have & up until they read about Off Leash K9 Training in the article in the newspaper they had no idea where to turn for help. People dump dogs off at the shelter everyday for way less than what Max put them through! They want so desperately to be able to love their dog as a member of the family & not just have him running wild in the back yard. They want to enjoy him, take him places & not have to worry that he might put them in a cast or the hospital. This was an emergency situation & Max needed them as much as they needed us. All he wants is to be loved on. He was starving for attention that they were unable to give him. He would jump & scratch & bite...playfully but playful or not it was way too rough. Behavior that is obviously very unacceptable especially given their situation. Max & his family have touched my heart. So for all you people with your New Years resolutions, this is mine....to make a difference in as many lives as I can, human & canine alike.
