I know its Monday. I know its early. I know that no one should start the week with a rant. Despite this knowledge, most importantly, I know how disgustingly awful it is that my hometown not only hosts this, but that people actually support it by attending. I know that a circus is thought of as being a fun place to take your children. You may just tell me that its none of my business what you decide is decent entertainment for your family. You would be right, it isnt. However, lets have a conversation, because after all, there are places like Chuck E Cheese. Im assuming because Ive had likes on my statuses that are based around how terrible Sea World is and how Netflix has Black Fish available, most people would agree that keeping orcas, dolphins, etc. held captive is despicable, wrong, heart breaking, and quite honestly, the worst thing that could happen to these beautiful mammals. So, is that not the same for circus animals? Did you know that an elephants brain is larger than any other land animal? Their brains are most similar to human brains in terms of structure and complexity. Did you know that elephants have the capability to show emotions, such as grief and compassion? They are one of the most intelligent creatures that this planet has to offer. And humans have decided to tie them up to poles and allow people to gaze upon them like a trophy, while their eyes are filled to the brim with sadness - with the desire to be free. Im not trying to shame or talk down to anyone at all, but cmon. Ive seen pictures of the tigers in the cage and they look so insanely miserable. There are amazing ways to entertain your family. This isnt one.
