I know its an ad. BUT I love it. This is the newer version. I think the reason it so reflects my feelings when it comes to thinking about what it is to be Australian, is that it embraces the freedom in which I live. When I go about my life, the seemingly mundane everyday, I am reminded that I live the way I do by complete choice. I live in a freedom that is not present in too many places in the world outside my island home. I often use the phrase have to, but really, I live in the freedom to decide otherwise at any given moment. I will always have to face the consequences of my decisions, but my reaction to situations that present themselves, and the decisions I make accordingly, are all my own. I have views of the mountains from my windows, and yet can have my feet in the sand in a very short time if I so wished. The beauty in a never-ending landscape that presents itself, when moving from one place to the next can be breathtaking. And I often take it for granted that I am immersed in it every day. I have the opportunity to work, have a family of any size, work really hard to own a home and renovate it as I want to. I can go to a church of my choice, read whatever I want to, give my opinion no matter how incorrect I may in fact be, grow food, travel, argue, and choose the way in which I parent my children. Freedom. I am thankful for all this and oh so much more. I can not imagine a better place to live, raise my children, and above all call my home. Australia: I will always call home.
