I know its rumors, but the thing that bothers me the most is that the word omnimover was mentioned in the article and this is one of the most horrendous words I have ever heard uttered by mankind. This is a rumor in reference to the Frozen attraction that will be replacing Maelstrom which is a different horror for another rant. Sure, the omnimover was a great ride vehicle idea in the late sixties, it was a groundbreaking method that was efficient in capacity and was able to offer the ability to view scenes from all sides with a rotation of the upper part of the vehicle while the track still progressed. In the year 2015 and with the amount of people visiting WDW, the Omnimover in my honest opinion is obsolete. You see the presence of the ride vehicle in rides that are from the early seventies or replaced rides that were from the seventies or the early eighties. The only exception, if I am correct, is The Little Mermaid, which was opened in 2012. I feel that one of the biggest downfalls of Disney is handling capacity and you can see this from Main Street during parades to the practice of pushing for counts at an attraction(ie: it doesnt look like they do this at all) and then the endless lines of people trying to obtain a fastpass(even though theres an app for that). Capacity is not Disneys strong suit and I feel the omnimover is a half-assed way to deal with capacity, because the track is constantly in motion. However, they are designed to fit 2-3 people within certain body dimensions. Sometimes you can squeeze a fourth but thats pushing it. In retrospect, a constantly moving ride system that seats roughly 2 people per vehicle is still horrible at handling capacity by the todays standards. Which means that the wait will be incredibly long because of interest and then the capacity will make it even longer. Yes, it worked in the seventies for capacity, but the Disney hype has expanded world-wide and were not looking at locals or visitors from upstate. Were global, yall. Now, add Fastpass to that. Because the Fastpasses are going to be reserved months in advance and theyll populating their own 12 year queue making the standby line possibly a century. *shrugs* Lastly, omnimovers I feel remove the immersion of being in the story, especially in this day and age where people want to feel like their experience was to themselves, hence Star Tours where youre on a flight with people in your own cruiser or Dinosaur where you really have to crane your neck and to see another vehicle on your ridethrough. Immersion theming would of course affect capacity anyways, but personally, I wouldnt mind waiting for ride with wonderful immersiona dn a great ride vehicle then going on an omnimover where my party of four is going to have to split up in separate vehicles anyways. /rant Now enjoy the rest of the rumored and confirmed plans happening at Disney by 2017, Im looking forward to Morimoto myself. ^o^
