I know many of our members are into endurance sports whether be in running, biking or swimming. After these long workouts we tend to be feel accomplished and just tend to eat incorrectly and take rest like an everyday thing to do. But 1 thing that is as important as your workout is REST. By getting proper rest, you allow your body to heal and recover. Allowing proper recovery time lets you gain back and recuperate lost energy, water in your system and nutrients. For example riding for 100-140km you burns from 2800-4000 calories, even though you can eat the same amount of food in 1 sitting only 15-20% is stored back and the rest is flushed out in your toilet. Another effect of improper rest is you submit your immunity and making it vulnerable to cold , viruses, and what happened to me - a bacteria attacked my foot and cause my workouts to a halt. Try to evaluate your post work out and see how long do you need to rest and recovery. Resting for a few days or tapering is better than stopping for weeks or even months.
