I know memory can be fickle but Im struggling to recall the last time we had such a sustained period of very high wind. If you live in a windy spot you understand the mean wind speed in the weather forecast can be at least doubled to account for gusts. According to the BBC forecast weve had mean (average) wind speed in the low to mid 30 mph range since around 8pm yesterday. That may not seem much but it means winds gusting between about 55 and not far off 75mph for around 32 hours. My 100 year old slate roof is rattling and banging like a train coming into a station.
