I know most of us are or are soon to be knee deep in mud, ice, - TopicsExpress

I know most of us are or are soon to be knee deep in mud, ice, snow and general, all-around yuck. Puts a damper on the riding and training, you say? Yes, it sure does. But, being stuck on the ground does give us an opportunity to work on other aspects of our hobby. The riders of Aethelmearc are doing a great job on researching and creating their garb, their horses barding, tack, etc. I believe Gozen has gotten many compliments on how good our cavalrys appearance is. As most of you know, we are attempting to bring the equestrian disciplines into more mainstream SCA - rather than being shuffled off to the middle of nowhere, we are working on being an integral part of an event. We have a lot going for us in this regard - people *want* to watch us do what we do. The horses are a big, exciting, draw, especially for non-horse people. The better we look (and ride, and use a weapon, of course) the more interesting it will be for the people who come to watch us. Now for the heads-up that this is leading into! This is your chance to really shine! At the next Championships, your and your horses appearance will count in some fashion towards your score for the day. I will run and score the riding, but I am trying to arrange for a gallery of ladies to judge the appearance. I am still working out the details, and will post more as I get them, but in the meantime, I wanted to let you all know what was being planned, so that you can think about what you can do to capitalize on your period appearance. If you can make an entire kit for you and your steed (or *a* steed that you will be borrowing, if not your own), Fantastic! But one or two items, be they garb, armor, barding, tack, etc., added to your collection, is also great! I will be asking for brief (very brief! - think a half sheet or less) description and explanation, (Im not going to call it documentation, since that implies something more in depth than what I think we need) so that the judges will know what they are looking at and why you made something the way you did. The A&S days that Lady Aaliz is scheduling are a good way to start on a new project. We can also try to arrange some get togethers to work on projects if anyone wants to do this. Sorry this got so lengthy!
