I know most people think Radio Shack isnt very important but this is very sad and very emblematic of and will further contribute to Americas technological decline. Here is why. While experienced technologists source components via the Internet and will be unaffected, Radio Shack was the only place mainstream Americans could ever see something like an Arduino or an electronics learning kit. Just like 30 years earlier when many kids received chemistry sets for Christmas, any parent, even if not themselves technical, could walk into any neighborhood Radio Shack and get a recommendation for something educational for their child. These parents wont instead now go to the Internet and find something educational, theyll instead now go to Toys-R-Us and find something stupid. Their children will be now be even more likely to become consumers rather than producers. I was hoping Radio Shack could hold on for 3D printer affordability and maybe survive on that boom. But instead 1/5 of the stores are closing and the rest are transforming themselves into hopeless little competitors to Best Buy instead of maintaining their niche. So, bummer.
