I know my posts have been a touch sad lately(OK, a lot), so I wanted to share something that truly touched me. I was at the NAVC 2015 Conference last week which had an attendance of over 16,000 people. I was sitting by myself in the Wildlife Track thinking of ways to torture my wildlife vet friend for abandoning me and going river boating at the last minute, when the sweetest girl came up to me and said are you Karen Bailey? You are like a celebrity to me! You are like my idol! My first thought, was OMG, they are already serving vodka? she must be drunk!..THANK GOD! Please share and be my new best friend. But, she went on to passionately say that my protocols saved her raccoons from parvo. She friended me on Facebook, later sent me this sweet message It was so amazing to meet you. Im still bragging that I got to meet you. Youre my idol and inspiration. I think youre fantastic. The coons of the world appreciate your research. She posted that night on Facebook Amazing day at the conference. I got to meet my idol Karen Bailey and ebola patient Nina Pham and her dog Bentley. It was shortly after that I got the call they were taking Nash to emergency surgery. But, I wanted to take a moment to thank Jamie Blanchet for reminding me why I do what I do. Im here to make a difference for wildlife and the animals I care about. Im far from home and away from my family and animals. So thank you Jamie; kindness matters.....more than you know. Sometimes, people see emotion, passion, or being different as a weakness. Id say to those who dont believe: never underestimate strength when it comes from the heart. There is so much power in passion and purpose, and sadly too many people lose sight of that when they get wrapped up in their own agendas. I just wish there were more Doug Byars, Fairfield Bain, and Scott Tritschs in the world.
