I know one thing ... our generation changed the worldview of the US Military. After Vietnam and our shadow military of Carters CIC years our CIC said fekk gettin Congressional approval, fekk the medias first amendment stance giving our enemies better intel than theyd ever get and lets give em shock and awe by opening the American can of KICKAZZ. I am proud to have served under our CIC. Please, before anyone starts putting down our CIC take a moment to understand why, as a Veteran from a family of Veterans, I like George H.W. Bush. When the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor he pushed off Yale and enlisted in the Navy becoming the youngest pilot in the Navy. He volunteered to fly the most dangerous aircraft the Navy had, the The Grumman TBM Avenger Torpedo Bomber. The Avengers lost five out of six bombers on its combat debut Battle of Midway. Bush piloted one of four aircraft from VT-51 that attacked the Japanese installations on Chi Chi Jima 02SEP44. During their attack, the four TBM Avengers encountered intense antiaircraft fire. While starting the attack, Bushs aircraft was hit and his engine caught on fire. He completed his attack and released the bombs over his target scoring several damaging hits. With his engine on fire, Bush flew several miles from the island, where he and one other crew member on the TBM Avenger bailed out of the aircraft. It was never determined which man bailed out with Bush. Both Delaney and White were killed in action. While Bush anxiously waited four hours in his inflated raft, several fighters circled protectively overhead until he was rescued by the lifeguard submarine, USS Finback. For this action, Bush received the Distinguished Flying Cross. During the month he remained on Finback, Bush participated in the rescue of other pilots. The previous June, Bush had experienced a similar close call with death when he was forced to make a crash landing on water after a bombing run; a U.S. destroyer crew rescued him from the sea. After his harrowing experience near Chi Chi Jima, Bush returned to the San Jacinto and continued to pilot torpedo bombers in several successful missions. Over the course of 1944, while his squadron SUFFERED A 300% PILOT CASUALTY RATE , an undaunted Bush won three Air Medals as well as a Presidential Unit Citation. In total, Bush flew 58 combat missions during the war. In December 1944, Bush was reassigned to Norfolk Naval Base in Norfolk, Virginia, where he was tasked with training new pilots. Lieutenant (junior grade) George Herbert Walker Bush was Honorably Discharged 18SEP45. He graduated as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa from Yale in 1948 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics. After graduating from Yale, Bush started as a sales clerk with Dresser Industries. Bush started the Bush-Overbey Oil Development and the Zapata Offshore Company, a subsidiary which specialized in offshore drilling., Bush moved the company from Midland to Houston. By 1968 George his ambitions turned political.] By that time, Bush had become a millionaire. He went on to represent Texas in Congress, became Ambassador to the United Nations, Chief of the U.S. Liaison Office in the Peoples Republic of China (we didnt have official ties to those communists but the job was unofficially the same as Ambassador), ran the spooks as the CIA Director, taught as a Professor of Administrative Science at Rice Universitys Jones School of Business, became President Reagans go to guy as Vice-President, Elected POTUS, The U.S. Navy Memorial Foundation awarded Bush its Lone Sailor award for his naval service and his subsequent government service, he was made an Honorary Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath by Queen Elizabeth II. On 10JAN09, both George H. W. Bush was present at the commissioning of the USS George H.W. Bush (CVN-77), the tenth and last Nimitz-class supercarrier of the United States Navy. On 15FEB11, he was awarded the Medal of Freedom—the highest civilian honor in the United States—by POTUS Barack Obama. Bush suffers from a form of Parkinsons disease which has forced him to use a motorized scooter or wheelchair since 2012. George H.W. Bush shaved his head 24JUL13 to show support for the son of a member of his security detail, who is being treated for leukemia. After seeing that many members of his Secret Service detail had shaved their heads in support of a young boy named Patrick, whose father Jon is a member of the Bush Protective Division, Bush shaved his head in support of the two-year-old diagnosed with leukemia and had started losing his hair. Now you see why I am proud to have served under this particular CIC Brothers.
