I know people are ignoring my posts of late. A bit more deep than my dog took a pooh or cute kitty videos. But for those who do want a bit more from life than most of the mindless crap posted on social media I would ask you take a moment to read the following. In my years of working with artists and touring around the US and to other countries with them some of the nicest have always been the goths. And they tend to be some of the most creative and brilliant minds as well. I would ask everyone take a moment to remember Sophie Lancaster today/tomorrow because seven years ago Sophie and her boyfriend were walking home when a group of teens attacked them, and they had Sophie on the ground and proceeded to kick her so hard she went into a coma. On August 24, 2007 her parents took her off life support. Why did the attack happen? Because Sophie and her boyfriend were goth. This attack and murder led to a better definition about what a hate crime is, at least in Europe. It now includes crimes against people who are part of an alternative lifestyle and dress as such. If one has the money, or wants to go to the local library, checkout The Routledge International Handbook on Hate Crime. If you want a less expensive book Hate Crime: Impact, Causes and Responses might be better. Here we are 7 years later. Hate is a teen book, well at least a book aimed at the young teen reader, by Alan Gibbons that was inspired by Sophies murder was recently released. And She Cried is a film that recently was released, sort of, in the UK. The film was inspired by Sophies story the entire cast and crew worked for free so the film makers really dont have any solid distribution but they are actively looking to get the film submitted into film festivals. You can find out more about the film at https://facebook/andshecriedfilm The Stamp Out Prejudice Hatred and Intolerance Everywhere foundation - or SOPHIE for short, is based in Europe but it is something that should be a part of our American culture as well. Because it is not just about goth, is is about everything. It is about raising awareness - not just about Sophie, but about intolerance and hate overall, and everywhere. The band Bad Pollyanna has release a single, Invincible Girl, with all proceeds going to the SOPHIE charity. So go ahead, spend the $1.78 and buy the download. amazon/Invincible-Girl-Bad-Pollyanna/dp/B00MQW79G8/ref=sr_1_3?s=dmusic&ie=UTF8&qid=1408844750&sr=1-3&keywords=Bad+Pollyanna #SophieLancaster
