I know redevelopments and advancements are good for us. But it shd not be done gazetted KPI style at the expense of our soul and spirit. More malls, shopping cte, integrated resorts (whats that anyway), condos and covered walkways and less packed MRT rides does not a great nation make. Plse stop enbloc-king my heritage and sense of belonging away. Places, faces and things which a generation forged with soulful instincts that gave us charactor are now ebbing away. I sense the only culture we can bond over now is Food Culture. I can foresee a glass and steel Balestier Road, condo-fication of Jln Besar, Katong to be mauled by malls and hotels (now that Tiong Bahru is infested with up to 30 hipster cafe wannabes- the very essence of why we wanna go there, is now gone), and the Chinafication of Chinatown is complete (the Singlish Cantonese chatter is now replaced by Zhejiang slangs). What else is in store? Sure, they are doing their best to control prices of houses and cars (ever wondered why we dun just gang up and put in 10k bids, knowing the COEs are limited anyway) and introduced TDSR which is only making the rich richer and the poorer more desperate. Notice how many empty condo apts are afoot. Just look around. This is my Sg and this year is my SG50, I am more determined than ever to colour my land with our own colours- which was what made it exciting for foriegners in the first place even back in the day. SG 50 stands for Singapore 50, not Slowly Going... Be you, be us..it;s worth it. Happy SG50my frens.
