I know rules are rules. Sometimes I wonder how some big businesses would fare if they allowed some sort of kindness clause. We have heard of waiters and waitresses pay a veterans, bill or soldiers bill, not to mention the average citizens who do so as well. How about a corporate kindness clause. Set aside some of your advertising dollars, and if that is too hard, Start a jar for employees or patrons to contribute to handing out small freebies from time to time. I posted recently about another restaurant who had a homeless visitor and the owners, fed the man at no charge. Another patron offered to pay, because he was so impressed with the owners kindness, and they did not allow it. Corporate kindness can go a long way toward helping the needy and get you the kind of attention and patronage you would love to have, instead of the contempt of a nation for firing a man for giving away a corn muffin, a cup of coffee and a soda. Was that worth firing a kind dedicated employee who cared enough to feed a person in need. Do you know how rare it is to find an employee like this man in the story. Younger people in general are not thinking about these things and not to say they are bad, they are just in a different point in their lives. How many even show up to work on a regular basis. They lost a very good employee and destroyed their reputation, their online ratings have plummeted, over a corn muffin and a policy. I have worked for countless places that empowered me to make judgement calls on many issues that affect the bottom line. I have been a supervisor in customer service many years and used discretion in giving credit or something free. I have even on occasion paid for things myself. If I am in line at the store and the person in front of me is a bit short of what they need to cover their purchases, I love to help out. I have had people do that for me in life and I love to pay it forward. We are losing these wonderful qualities about human beings out of fear or indifference and that is very sad. theblaze/stories/2014/06/27/disgraceful-the-reason-cracker-barrel-terminated-a-73-year-old-military-veteran-has-resulted-in-something-of-a-pr-nightmare/
